CCBR

Last Saturday was the Central California Band Review, a long-standing tradition in Merced.  My dad and I have been taking the girls for the past few years, as they love all things marching band.  Normally, we like to bounce back and forth between the percussion and parade competition areas.  This year, however, the girls grew weary of the walking (probably because there's a lot less carrying going on these days).  Next year, we just might try and get an early seat and take our folding chairs.  I didn't get as many photos this year, due to the fact that I was doing a lot of 'holding up' to watch the parade.

Oh, and I had a bit of a nerd alert--Ron Moore, Chowchilla alum and Battlestar Galactica creator, was there filming a documentary.  I couldn't resist snapping a picture (or 10).

Would you believe me if I told you...

...we've been spending all this time picking out the perfect pumpkin?

I promise we'll be back in full blog mode soon. Stay tuned...

Dive! Dive!

Okay, it may be more like jumping rather than diving. But hey, the girls got ultra brave one evening and decided to put their floaties on to try out some diving board action in the deep end of the pool. I keep meaning to get out there w/ the Rebel so that I can get some better action shots. These are courtesy of Grammy, and they're awfully fun. Enjoy!

Our First Field Trip

Today marked our first official field trip with our preschool. We drove out to Oak Valley Dairy in Snelling, where Mr. Perreira has a bevy of fun and unusual animals. He took us on a hay ride, and we got up close and personal with all kinds of animals, including a Zedonk (zebra/donkey mix). I had so many pictures that I put them into a slideshow for easier perusal. Enjoy!

Merced County Fair

Yesterday marked the girls' first trip to the county fair. A good time was had by all, but I only got about 2/3 of it on record, due to a dying camera battery.

Big tractors on the way in.

The girls' preschool submitted their artwork, so we made sure to go and see how we did. Blue ribbons!! From the looks of things, all of the preschoolers get blue ribbons.

However, Rachel's fingerpainting got a "very nice" penciled onto her card.

Charlotte's fingerpainting, which I also think is very nice! Don't you?

We got to watch Kara Mae and our friend Lauren (not pictured) dance. Kara's little class only had 2 girls show up, but they were wonderful!

We got to learn how to hold a chick. Then we got to sanitize our hands! Awwww....

Charlotte, showing off her shiny pink token for the pony ride.

Rachel, ditto.

If you'll direct you eyes to the second bucket from the top, you'll see a slightly terrified Sabrina and a delighted Kara Mae.

The girls went on the ferris wheel with their dad, not their mom. My momma didn't raise no fool!
And there is where my battery died.
We didn't stay much longer and only did two more rides--there was no way I was shelling out for 30 dollar wristbands for each girl for a small handful of rides. So we picked and chose. It turned out to be a very nice evening and I'm sure we'll try it again next year.

Bunnies

Today is "Wear a Disguise" day at school. After ransacking our toys and dress-up gear, we decided to be bunny rabbits. I wasn't crazy about sending dress-up clothes to school, for fear that they'd get dirty and torn. Leftover Easter ears, a little eyeliner pencil and some blush, and you've got cute bunny rabbits! My dad's idea for "disguises" was to put a "Rachel" nametag on Charlotte and a "Charlotte" nametag on Rachel. Somehow, I think the humor would be lost on a bunch of 4 and 5 year-olds. Funny idea, though.

This is what happens when you put twins on a teeter-totter...

They tend not to go anywhere.

Thank goodness Daddy is there to get things going.

Thank goodness we're so cute.

And thank goodness for snacks.

Crazy Hair Day

Today was Crazy Hair Day at school.

We may not look that crazy from the front...

But we're all kinds of crazy in the back!
